The Heart Sutra

The Heart Sutra, which is a teaching on emptiness or shunyata, is the most popular sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom (Skt. Prajñaparamita) collection of Mahayana sutras.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama explains: “Regarding the Heart Sutra, the term heart indicates that among the vast body of teachings on the Prajñaparamita, this text is the very essence—a concise presentation of the teachings elaborated upon in the rest of the prajñaparamita sutras.”

On this page of essential study and practice materials, you will find the Heart Sutra practice text, practice guidelines, audio files with English chants and video teachings.
